Day 30 (Feb 26th) - TOKYO DISNEYLAND!! Part 1

Location: Maihama, Chiba-ken
Weather: Cloudy, cold 8 deg
Author: Chrissie

Finally, the post on Tokyo Disneyland!! Amy had been asking for us to go almost from the first week we arrived in Tokyo and of course I was also eager to go since I love almost all things Disney! It's the one place where I feel I can literally revert back to my childhood (act over-excited) and relive the wonder I felt as a child when I watched Disney shows. Haha, yes I get pretty soppy when it comes to Disney things!

Suffice to say I took a ton of pictures that day, about 800 photos I think, so you can guess it was a little hard to choose what to post up.

Tokyo Disneyland is currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary "The Dream Goes On" Grand Finale until the 14th April, 2009 (for those in the area) and we managed to get a discount coupon for 1000 yen off the regular ticket price of 5800 yen! That means more money to spend on food inside - yes!

During the walk towards the Disneyland entrance, you are surrounded by the 'music of Disney' via loud speakers spaced along the walkway. I see it as the appetizer to get visitors into the right Disney frame of mind.

Crowd of people walking from the train station to Tokyo Disneyland

As soon as we walked through the ticket barrier we saw Daisy Duck posing with a bunch of cute Japanese kids, mostly little girls of course. I can't see many little boys wanting to pose with Daisy Duck!

Me in front of the entrance to the World Bazaar

For those who have never been to Tokyo Disneyland, there are 6 different themed Lands you can visit inside such as Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Then there is also the World Bazaar which is a large collection of shops selling Disney merchandise and souvenirs. Then within each Land itself are themed restaurants and shops, which have slightly unique food and products to other Lands. In other words, lots of things to discover!!

Since I had already bought some souvenirs the last time I had visited Tokyo Disneyland (yes, I've been once before) we bypassed World Bazaar pretty quickly and were greeted with a fanfare!

ADVENTURELAND!

We headed first to Adventureland as it was the closest to the World Bazaar and started off with the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' ride. There was a long line of people, so queuing time took about 30 minutes. One word of advice is try not to visit Disneyland during school holidays as the queuing time for rides and food are long! In retrospect, we must have spent at least 3 hours queuing for things that day!

Unfortunately I didn't take any photos as cameras weren't allowed inside, but it was basically a boat ride through the world of the Pirates and of course the star of the attraction was Jack Sparrow!

JUNGLE CRUISE
Next up was the Jungle Cruise which is a boat ride through the treacherous jungle terrains of Adventureland!

Our riverworthy jungle boat "Congo Connie"

Our reliable and enthusiastic boat captain!

The cruise along the river was peaceful with small waterfalls and lush jungle plants

Until we saw a tent overrun by wild gorillas - the first hint that something was weird in the jungle!

Wild african animals in the jungle you say? should we be on a safari instead?!!

Some predators eyeing 4 tasty treats who are holding onto the tree for literally, their dear lives!

Our jungle trip was also fraught with danger as we almost collided with the boat in front of us!

A hungry hippo rising up from the deep murky depths - what big teeth you have!

We also saw some remnants of an ancient civilization

A family of elephants having a drink

Except for this rebel who was playing with his water and trying to squirt us!

Needless to say we survived our jungle trip intact. I actually quite enjoyed the ride, it was leisurely and cruisy and our tour guide was quite friendly although we couldn't understand very much of what he was saying as it was in Japanese. We understood when he said "Danger" though!

THE ENCHANTED TIKI ROOM

The enchanted tiki room was where we watched a musical performance featuring Stitch from the Disney cartoon "Lilo and Stitch". We took some photos while waiting for the show to start. The weather had started getting a little chilly and it was drizzling a little so it was with great relief when we found out the seats we were sitting on while waiting were heated!! Heated seats (including toilets) have got to be one of the greatest inventions ever!

Apparently we weren't allowed to take videos or photos inside during the show, but I managed to take this photo of the big pot Stitch rises up from before the show began.

SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON TREEHOUSE

The Swiss Family Robinson treehouse was basically a giant treehouse we could wander up and around in at leisure, looking at relics and artifacts from the famous story. It also offered a good view of Adventureland from higher up.

Amy wandering ahead!
